Warm-Up Exercises
For each showcase in the creative skills classes, there were 1-2 warm-ups for every group. Below is an overview of some of the best warm-up exercises, which I would love to implement for future sessions that I have to organise myself. Some of the warm-ups were suitable for boosting the energy, such as the mirror warm-up and the cha-cha dance warm-up, whereas other warm-ups were related to the main exercise.
The Mirror Warm-Up
This warm-up was organised by H5O, who presented the wishful thinking technique. The mirror warm-up was about having each group member do movements for 30 seconds each, that every group member then had to copy. This was an efficient technique to get warmed up literally.
The Cha-Cha Slide Warm-Up
One of the warm-ups that my own group, Energy Events, organised for the goal orientation technique session, was the cha-cha slide dance. Everyone had to get up and listen to the lyrics of this song, and dance to it.
The Hardcore Rock-Paper-Scissors Warm-Up
This warm-up was organised by the SMT group, which was the last creative session. For this, each person had to pick out a partner, so that there were several groups, each with 2 people. Once everyone was in a group, the extreme rock-paper-scissors started, and it was best out of 3. When one person won, the other person had to cheer them on, when they went around to find someone else to play against. This continued until there were only 2 people left, who were then cheered on by at least 10 people each.
The Colour & Word Association Warm-up
This warm-up was also organised by Energy Events. For this warm-up the students needed to get together in the centre of the room. There were different colours of paper stuck to the walls in different parts of the room. When one of the facilitators said a word such as "tiger" or "dreams", everyone had 5 seconds to go to the colour that they associated with that word. After choosing a colour, it is important to ask the individual members why they chose that colour. It is very interesting to listen to the answers, since everyone has different perceptions and thoughts. It is a very simple and effective warm-up.
The Noise Warm-Up
For this particular warm-up every person was given a card with a word on it, that no one was allowed to share with anyone. This word they had to imitate, while keeping their eyes closed. For example, one of the words was a car alarm, after which the participants with that card started saying "Beep, Beep, Beep...". 5 participants out of 25 had that same word, so each person needed to listen carefully to find the members with the same noise. Once finding each other, they are in a group together.
Laugh Therapy Warm-Up
Another group used laugh therapy as their warm-up. Participants needed to stand in a circle, and each person needed to look at the participant opposite of them in the circle, and make direct eye contact with them. Upon this, everyone was instructed to smile and begin laughing. Starting out, it was a tiny bit awkward. However, it quickly became a very funny warm-up.
